GameOn Entertainment Technologies (GET.C) onboards Willow TV in time for cricket’s world cup

GameOn Entertainment Technologies (GET.C) has partnered with internet streaming portal provider for cricket events, Willow TV, today, according to a press release.

The partnership with Willow TV will bring Willow TV Cricket Predictor to all of Willow’s 3.5 million homes across North America in time for the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup in October.

“Cricket is one of the most-followed and lucrative sports on the planet, and we’re excited to expand our impact on the industry by partnering with one of the sport’s top rights-holders, Willow TV, ahead of the much-anticipated T20 World Cup. With cricket partnerships in both India and North America, we’re very intently driving partnerships with revenue, and establishing ourselves as a global leader. We continue on our mission to power the most-watched content in the world with the most innovative fan engagement technologies,” said Matt Bailey, GameOn’s CEO.

What is GameOn?

We ran an entire series of GameOn Entertainment Technologies last week, but if you missed it, GameOn provides broadcasters, TV networks, OTT platforms, leagues, tournaments and sportsbooks with the ability to engage with their audiences through use of their fan engagement platform.

GameOn does white labelling with several partners in sports and entertainment, effectively bringing gamification to the home screen while you watch the big games, giving audiences a chance to make friendly wagers on everything from the Real Housewives of the Potomac to who will win the local cricket game. The prospects have recently been enhanced by the addition of its NFT integration profile, in collaboration with Blockparty, which leverages non-fungible tokens as in-game rewards.

This announcement expands on GameOn’s gamification for cricket rights holders, which came on the heels of their June deal with India’s MX Player. Considering that cricket is the second-most-popular sport behind soccer in the world, watched by an estimated 2.5 billion people across the world, it’s kind of a big deal.

How does it work with Willow?

While watching the T20 World Cup on Willow, cricket fans can play free-to-play prediction games, taking a stab at what will happen throughout the match and getting points for right answers as they compete against friends, family and other cricket fans. The rewards are status and recognition, as well as experiences and prizes that money can’t buy, for getting high on the leaderboard.

“Our fans, content distributors and brand partners are all passionate about cricket,” said Todd Myers, Willow TV SVP Global Operations. “By partnering with GameOn, we’re able to magnify their engagement and drive value for all partners involved.”

If you’re North American and curious about what Willow TV is all about, here’s a handy graf straight from the press release:

Willow TV is the official broadcaster of various cricket Boards, including the International Cricket Council (ICC), Cricket Australia, England & Wales Cricket Board, Cricket South Africa, Pakistan Cricket Board, and Indian Premier League (IPL). Its satellite, cable and IPTV affiliates in the United States include DISH, Sling, FIOS, Spectrum, Google Fiber, Xfinity, Optimum and Altice One.
