Vejii Holdings Ltd. (VEJI.C) announced today that Actual Veggies, a healthy plant-based burger brand, has launched on ShopVejii.com. Co-founded by Jason Rosenbaum and Hailey Swartz, Actual Veggies was created to provide an alternative to conventional veggie burgers, which are often highly processed, frozen, bland, or loaded with preservatives.
“As we continue to scale our brand and marketplace, it is especially important to us to remain committed to the community we’ve created by partnering with companies that have also committed to sustainability…
This partnership with Actual Veggies’ will allow us to expand our selection for our customers with a unique and innovative plant-based burger option that is unlike many brands that are currently on the market,” said Kory Zelickson, CEO of Vejii.
Actual Veggies
Unlike most veggie burgers, every 1/4 pound Actual Veggies patty is packed with wholesome, plant-only, farm-fresh ingredients. Furthermore, the company’s patties are gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, GMO-free, and contain no preservatives. Certifications aside, the production of Actual Veggies’ patties requires 96% less land, 89% less water, and outputs 90% fewer emissions. Sounds pretty sustainable.
More often than not, when it comes to plant-based burgers, the ambition of creating a burger that can mimic the taste and texture of a traditional beef patty comes at a cost. Even big names like the Impossible Burger or the Beyond Burger often fall flat in terms of nutritional value. For example, a 4-ounce Beyond Burger contains 18 grams of fat compared to 4 ounces of 85% lean ground beef weighing in at 17 grams of fat.
Moreover, while 4 ounces of 85% lean ground beef contains 6 grams of saturated fats and 80 milligrams of sodium, a Beyond Burger contains 8 grams and a whopping 390 milligrams, respectively. Although the differences are marginal in most cases, when compared to 4 ounces of 85% lean ground beef, brands like the Impossible Burger and Beyond Burger are wanting in almost every category.
As for Actual Veggies, the company’s 1/4 pound (4-ounce) plant-based patty contains about 9 grams of protein, 170 calories, 9 grams of fiber, less than 260 milligrams of sodium, and zero saturated fats. I know what you’re thinking. In terms of protein, Actual Veggies’ patty can hardly compare to something like the Beyond Burger. However, let’s not forget that plant-based burgers like the Impossible Burger rely on soy to achieve high protein content, a highly controversial food source.
“At Actual Veggies’ we are committed to simple, clean ingredients and no science projects or processing. Everything starts from the ground. We’re reducing environmental strain while also making tasty food options that are convenient and healthy too…
Vejii’s company ethos and mission align with what we are trying to accomplish as a company. To be able to grow our brand while working with a company that is equally as committed to sustainability is something that we are proud to be able to do,” says Jason Rosenbaum, Actual Veggies CEO.
Unlike most brands, Actual Veggies throws the idea of mimicking a conventional burger out the window. Instead, the company’s vegetarian patties are made with only real vegetables, natural binding units, and no additives. With this in mind, Actual Veggies first four burgers are vibrantly colored just like the natural ingredients they are made with. In the company’s words, “they don’t taste like meat because they’re not trying to.” Check out the company’s website for a closer look at their products.
Post Malone Likes His Vegetables
It is worth noting that Actual Veggies recently raised $2.3 million in a recent funding round, bringing the company’s total raise to $2.8 million to date. The funding round was led by Electric Feel Ventures, the venture capital arm of Post Malone’s management team. Actual Veggies’ successful funding round took place shortly after the company experienced high eCommerce growth. Aside from Post Malone, notable participants of the funding round included professional soccer player Kieran Gibbs, Big Venture Ideas, and Rose Street Capital.
With this in mind, Vejii’s digital marketplace, ShopVejii.com, and fulfillment platform were built to make it easy for brands like Actual Veggies to rapidly scale their sales and distribution both nationally and internationally. Looking forward, Vejii will support Actual Veggies by assisting the company in increasing its exposure across the United States (US).
Keep in mind, Actual Veggies recently closed financing will further support the company’s expansion across US brick-and-mortar retailers. Additionally, Actual Veggies intends to use the new capital to expand its product assortment, invest in new equipment to streamline production and increase brand awareness through improved marketing efforts.
