Vitalhub (VHI.V) sells their SHREWD Region platform to Britain’s NHS

Vitalhub (VHI.V) sold their subsidiary, Transforming Systems’, proprietary SHREWD Region platform to the National Health Service (NHS) East of England regional team, according to a press release.

The NHS East of England regional group services a population cohort of over 6 million people, with six integrated care systems (ICS).

“This regional sale continues to demonstrate how successful implementations lead toward expansion across neighbouring regions and sites. Now more than ever, it has become essential for regions and systems to maintain a comprehensive real-time understanding of pressures and capacity within their emergency care departments. We are delighted that regions are seeing immense value in our solutions, and we are looking forward to continuing to provide vital services to ensure that these organizations continue to run smoothly and optimally,” said Dan Matlow, CEO of Vitalhub.

This fits in lockstep with Vitalhub’s portfolio and general thrust. They’re a former client of ours and quite possibly one of the few remaining blockchain enabled (on a different project) companies to survive the crypto-winter of 2018 not only intact, but in a much better position than most.  We may have had something to do with that.

Regardless, they’re essentially a tech company looking to improve the efficacy of the medical profession, and through them, the lives and outcomes of their patients. They provide technology to Health and Human Services providers including hospitals, regional health authorities, mental health, and more. At present, their aggressive merger and acquisition strategy has pushed their client list to include 275+ across Canada, USA, Australia, Qatar and Latvia. The most recent push besides the NHS was last month, when the company inked a deal with Centre Integre Universitaire de Sante et de Services Sociaux du Nord-de- l’île-de- Montréal.

Transforming Systems released SHREWD in 2015 to help the NHS solve the challenge of lack

of access to real-time information across its services. It took six years to develop, but SHREWD aims to improve the lives of medical professionals by capturing and transforming data on fluctuating scales from varying sources.

The SHREWD region system support the coordination of services, including displaying a simplified, solitary view of real-time pressure in urgent and emergency care over multiple systems, geographical areas, trusts and providers. The data shows up through a heatmap, which reflects live acute and system operational pressures escalation levels statuses, and reveals emerging pressure at a glance.

The Hertfordshire and West Essex ICS has been using the SHREWD model for the past two years. The successful implementation and use of the platform has facilitated its growth and expansion across the region, including to 17 hospital sites.

The intended purpose of the model is gathering information from across the region’s emergency departments to help improve their tactical decision-making in terms of patient transportation with the ultimate aim to maximizing resource allocation efficiency and care delivery. This includes the creation of an intelligence conveyancing system to support the East of England Ambulance Services (EEAST). If this trial program works out, it’ll likely expand to include additional modules.
