BlackBerry Limited (BB.T) announced today that 13 channel partners will now offer BlackBerry Jarvis 2.0 to companies that build, secure, mission-critical systems in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The Company’s latest announcement demonstrates the growing demand for protection against Internet of Things (IoT) security threats in the APAC region.
“BlackBerry QNX is excited to enable so many ecosystem partners to deliver BlackBerry Jarvis across more sectors, offering rapid, trusted intelligence to companies, developers and regulators that need to protect IP, address compliance issues and deploy security resources where they are needed most,” said Dhiraj Handa, VP, Asia Pacific, BlackBerry QNX.
To provide some context, BlackBerry Jarvis 2.0 (JARVIS) is a binary software composition analysis (SCA) and security testing solution. JARVIS is capable of detecting and listing open-source software and software licenses within embedded systems, as well as vulnerabilities and exposures. By performing a thorough scan of the software binary, JARVIS is able to produce a software bill of materials (SBOM).
Whew, more terminology. SBOM refers to a list of components in a piece of software. Why is this important? Well, software vendors often create products by assembling open source and commercial software components. Keeping a tidy list of all of these components can be helpful to both the manufacturer and the customer.
From a manufacturer’s perspective, an SBOM helps ensure that components are up to date and can respond to new vulnerabilities promptly. On the other hand, customers can use an SBOM to perform vulnerability or license analysis, both of which can be used to evaluate risk in a product. With this in mind, JARVIS is intended to create an SBOM, offering deep actionable insights in a fraction of the time.
Embedded software developers use JARVIS to demonstrate compliance to specific security standards while also hardening their systems. In addition to manufacturers and customers, SBOMs are also valuable to regulators. For example, regulators are able to use JARVIS to enforce compliance and verify security claims by manufacturers and suppliers.

Earlier this year, JARVIS was recognized as “Best In Breed”, among leading binary analysis solutions by an Internal Research & Development (IRAD) project. The analysis was conducted on behalf of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) by The Aerospace Corporation, which has cited JARVIS as the most promising and robust binary analysis solution on the market for embedded software.
It is worth noting that nine out of ten companies adopting IoT expect to experience a breach or attack caused by unsecured IoT devices in the next two years, according to Ponemon Insitute. Fueled by this expectation, the Global IoT Security Market is expected to grow from USD$14.9 billion in 2021 to USD$40.3 billion in 2026, expanding at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 22.1%.
