The Green Organic Dutchman (TGOD.T) and Caliper Foods flex their science muscles for cannabis dissolvables

The Green Organic Dutchman (TGOD.T) and Caliper Foods have finished a human pharmacokinetic (PH) study for Caliper CBD, Caliper’s tasteless and odourless water-soluble powder that can be added to any food or beverage.

The gold standard in cannabis edibles is in solving the bioavailability problem. The first company to crack that biochemical rubik’s cube will be the trend setter in December when products go on sale.

For THC, it’s the difference between a pleasant experience with a warm body-high that leaves you feeling relaxed and euphoric before bed, and a six-hour long ordeal where everything going on around you is secondary to the sense of impending doom in every vibrating molecule of your body.

If we’re talking CBD, then it’s how much actually gets absorbed by the body to do the work required versus how much gets pissed out.

TGOD is entering the Canadian cannabinoid dissolvables market in December 2019 under their TGOD-Infusers line. You’ll be able to buy organic teas, shots, chewables and ready-to-drink beverages. In the U.S., Caliper’s plans include marketing and selling Caliper CBD.

Caliper’s technology includes zero-calorie, fast-acting, water-soluble solutions that can add a certain kick to your beverages and food. It’s designed for quick absorption with a predictable onset and offset, offering a consistent, controlled and safe experience.

Apparently, they’ve solved the taste problem too.

Cannabinoids are fat-soluble—which means they can get helped along with the addition of a fatty-steak or anything on Boston Pizza’s menu—but Caliper’s tech eliminates the requirement of fat to aid absorption or added sugar to sweeten it. So, basically, they’ve set themselves up to market it as no added fat, sugar or artificial flavours.

The results are in

The study included two different groups. The test group received 30 mg of Caliper Foods’ water-soluble CBD powder in eight ounces of water, while the other group received 30 mg dispersed in MCT oil. Blood samples were taken at pre-determined times over six hours, and the early data displayed that the group that had taken the Caliper CBD showed faster onset within 15 minutes.

More concentrations of CBD built-up in the bloodstream of recipients at 15 minute intervals compared to the maximum concentration at 45 minutes with the CBD in the MCT oil. That’s a 4.5 fold higher observed total bioavailability. It was all over with the CBD having fled the scene after six hours for both subjects.

Once they get the THC formulations down, you’ll be able to sprinkle a little happy-spice into your after-dinner chardonnay and settle into the couch for a few hour trip to la-la land, and it’ll all be done in time for bed.

“We are delighted with these PK results as they confirm the enhanced bioavailability and consistent absorption rates of our proprietary ingredient technology, which can infuse both CBD and THC. This study confirms that consumers absorb 4.5 times more CBD with Caliper CBD than with CBD in MCT oil. Our R&D team is working closely with TGOD on the next phase of the clinical study, which, if it confirms the PK results in additional product forms, will make Caliper Foods’ and TGOD’s product suites highly differentiated in terms of substantiated quality,” said Keith Woelfel, Director of R&D at Caliper Foods.

TGOD stock price is down $0.03 to $2.96 at the time of writing.

The company has 275,500,388 shares issued and outstanding and a market cap of $823 million.
