Curaleaf Holdings (CURA.C) opens new dispensary in Wells, Maine

The friendliest town in Maine just got a whole lot friendlier.

Curaleaf Holdings (CURA.C) has opened a new Curaleaf-branded medical dispensary, located in Wells, Maine.

This is Curaleaf’s 108th location, and their 5th in Maine, which includes 3 other medical use and one adult-use location. The new location can provide medical marijuana to out-of-state patients, so long as they have a valid medical marijuana card.

“It’s important for medical patients to have access to the medication they need while travelling, and Curaleaf Wells is happy to provide continued access to quality products and expertise our patients know and trust,” said Scott Reed, General Manager at Curaleaf Maine. “We are excited to be in Wells and serve our expanded patient community.”

Wells, Maine, is not exactly a budding metropolis, with a population just under 10,000 according to the 2010 census. The southern Maine town is, however, a very popular tourist location, with plenty of beaches and national parks. With such a small population, the idea is likely to be that a branded store will draw awareness to Curaleaf as they pass through the historic town.

Still, it is another location on Curaleaf’s path towards ubiquity. Once a company has over 100 locations in 13 states, they no longer have major cities like San Francisco to expand into, and instead they find themselves opening up shop in places like Wells. But one advantage to having dispensaries all over the place is that you are likely to have the only operation in a given location. There has been an explosion of locations opening up all over every state with laws allowing them. Wells is just the latest place to get a medical cannabis store in their backyard.

Following today’s news, Curaleaf shares are down 38 cents and are currently trading at $16.13.
