Good Natured Products (GDNP.V), a North America leader in earth-friendly plant-based products, announced today that it has launched Canada’s first innovative assortment of Compostable Microwavable To Go Containers as a viable alternative for businesses faced with the impending single-use plastic ban in Canada.
“We’ve been collaborating on the commercialization of certified compostable, microwavable technology for several years, and now we have a commercially viable, affordable product that is ready for launch…The demand for secure storage and transport of food that is respectful of the environment, in combination with increasing emergence of single-use plastic bans meant we needed to get our plant-based microwavable technology across the finish line…,” said Paul Antoniadis, CEO of good natured®.
I guess you could say Good Natured is putting a lid on Canada’s single-use plastic ban? Unlike my witty jokes, Canada’s single-use plastic ban is no laughing matter. The ban was announced on October 7, 2020 by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, imposing a federal ban on six harmful single-use plastic items including plastic grocery bags, straws, stir sticks, plastic cutlery, six-pack rings and food containers made from hard-to-recycle plastics. These items are set to be phased out nationwide by 2022.
As a result of COVID-19, higher requirements to protect food in grocery stores and a demand for take-out from restaurants has increased the presence of hard-to-recycle plastics like black take-out containers. Food containers are particularly difficult to recycle in the foodservice industry where traces of food and oils on packaging can create problems in the recycling process. With this in mind, regulating and minimizing the use of hard-to-recycle plastics has become incredibly difficult.
Thankfully, Good Natured is here to save the day with its Compostable Microwavable To Go Containers, made in cooperating with Shepherd and IPF, the Company’s recently acquired in-house manufacturing facilities. The containers are designed to be compostable and are made from 97% plant-based materials. Additionally, they contain no chemicals that could be potentially harmful to human health and the environment. Furthermore, Good Natured’s containers are just as leak resistant, durable, and microwavable as conventional plastic packaging.
Good Natured announced that it will be presenting its new containers at the Grocery and Specialty Foods West virtual tradeshow. The Company will launch its most popular 16, 24, and 32oz formats in a variety of trending 2021 colors, whatever that means, with interchangeable leak-resistant lids. Good Natured’s clear lids and translucent lids will be an appealing alternative for grocers and restaurants looking for packaging alternatives.
Good Natured Product’s share price opened at $1.05 and is currently trading at $1.06 as of 11:43AM ET. This indicates that there has not yet been any significant change following the news.
