EarthRenew (ERTH.C) launches collaborative field test of soil microbiomes

EarthRenew (ERTH.C) announced they are evaluating the general effects of their products on the soil microbiome of potato fields in collaboration with Lethbridge College and the soil functionality analytics firm, Biome Makers, out of West Sacramento, California.

In their press release, EarthRenew noted that farmers, scientists, and conservationists are trying to work together in the fight against climate change, as it could cause both floods and droughts to become more common. EarthRenew believes that healthy soil could contribute to the fight against climate change, whereas low-quality soil could deprive vegetation of the oxygen and nutrients they need to grow.

The field tests will evaluate the specific effects of Replenish on the microbial community structure and the impact on soil functionality, as well as its effects on yield, grade, and quality of potatoes.

EarthRenew’s collaboration with Lethbridge College and Biome Makers will focus on the effects of ERTH’s Replenish sustainable fertilizer, which they acquired last month. The field tests will evaluate the specific effects of Replenish on the microbial community structure and the impact on soil functionality, as well as its effects on yield, grade, and quality of potatoes.

“Soil organic matter is the most important aspect of healthy soil. Soil organic matter and living organisms provide the foundation for soil to function properly, affecting every aspect of the soil in ways that almost always help crop yield and nutrient density,” explained Keith Driver, CEO of EarthRenew. “These field trials will help us prove the impact of our product on potatoes, a crop grown widely by Western Canadian farmers.”

EarthRenew expects final results from the trial by late September, which they expect to deepen their understanding of the fertilizer’s positive impact on the soil microbiome, which they anticipate will lead to a multi-year demonstration trial.

Lethbridge College will make a good partner due to their knowledge of soil, as they offer courses on agricultural soil and soil fertility. Biome Makers will also work well as partners on the field test, as they offer a proven path to understanding soil and its makeup.

By running similar studies in different areas, ERTH increases the scientific validity of their results.

EarthRenew is also running another study in Manitoba, where they are working with an independent research group, which will use the same design format and investigate the same parameters as their Lethbridge field trial. By running similar studies in different areas, ERTH increases the scientific validity of their results.

Additionally, EarthRenew announced that a number of formulations of their Replenish soil formulations have been approved by the Pro-Cert Organic Systems and the Organic Material Research Institute. ERTH noted that “these third-party verified certifications are only awarded to companies with the highest standards of humane animal management and ecological integrity.”

Following today’s news, EarthRenew shares are up half a cent and are currently trading at $0.29.
