Unless the transaction is social, sexual, or financial – people do not generally enjoy being touched by strangers.
In 2016, there were over 58,000 gun violence incidents in North America, which lead to 15,000 deaths.
Which is why the powers that be spend many billions in trying to figure out where weirdos with weapons are going to pop up next – and inconvenience millions in the process.
The current weapon-detection systems deployed in airports, stadiums, concert halls and train stations involve a lot of touching. Recent public-domain complaints to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) revealed the degree of customer distress from transportation front lines.
“After I was patted down,” one complainant stated, “the officer slapped me hard on the penis with the back of his hand. Things just got worse from there.”
According to the report, another male passenger phoned the hot line and asserted that “he was standing at the checkpoint with his pants pulled down to his knees and his ‘private part’ was sticking out.”
A female passenger stated that a security officer injured her breasts in the course of a rough pat-down.
It turns out the “Be-molested-Or-Shot” choice is a false one as a the technology company Patriot One (PAT.V) has developed “Cognitive Microwave Radar” that detects concealed weapons from a compact piece of hardware that can be embedded in a wall cavities.
In this business we hear a lot of “stories”. Some of these stories turn into commercially successful products that drive stock prices on an upward trajectory, creating fortunes for early investors.

Owner/operators of private and certain public facilities can now prominently post anti-weapons policies with compliance assured. The Company’s motto Deter, Detect and Defend is based on the belief that widespread use of its technology will act as an effective deterrent, thereby diminishing the epidemic phenomena of active shooters across the globe.
This isn’t just a sexy idea scrawled on a napkin.
Patriot One has signed an M.O.U. with the University of North Dakota for a real-world pilot study. The campus is made up of 240 buildings on 550 acres. Over 15,000 students from North Dakota as well as all 50 states and over 60 other nations attend classes on the UND campus each year.
Universities are natural locations for discreet weapons-detection technology. It is not practical to frisk 15,000 students a day – nor would it be good PR for the university to remind prospective students that they might be gunned down by a madman at any moment.
But as we are painfully aware, mad gunmen do strike learning institutions with devastating results. So having an insurance policy against this type of event is not a bad thing. And might be selling point for the parents of international students who are inundated with media reports of rogue American shooters.

Speakers will include Gov. Tom Ridge – the first US Secretary of Homeland Security. I don’t know if the Showcase attendees will be frisked at the door, but if they are, it will upset the attendees and be significant cost burden for the conference organisers.
