Selling through storytelling: The only thing that works

So we’ve been around now for a few weeks and it’s going great. Traffic continues to charge upwards, clients are getting great awareness for their companies, the podcasts are being shared and we’re hitting milestones I didn’t expect to hit for several months. I bet you want to understand our storytelling.

Well I’m going to go ahead and do something counter-intuitive now and explain who we’re doing it.

We’re doing the opposite of what everyone else does.

The animated gifs? Some people hate them. Other people share them. But they’re memorable, they create movement, they start each article with a laugh.

The bad language? It’s not something a big slice of potential audience is into. But another slice of that potential audience relates.

And the clients? We happily tell you when they’re screwing up. When Golden Leaf (GLH.C) stock was taking a beating and things outside the company’s control were hurting it, I told you about it and that I was dipping out of the stock, which caused Golden Leaf execs much distress.

But if all I say is the good stuff, who believes it?

When Laguna Blends (LAG.C) was bouncing down a hill, I pointed out the mistakes they had made and said ‘not now. Not yet.’ CEO wasn’t happy, but if I don’t discuss the downsides, there’s no upside discussion worth having down the road.

Both Laguna and Golden Leaf are clients. Both would admit they need to do better. I’m certain both will, and when they do, I’ll yell it from the rooftops but they have to earn that applause.

Nobody does what we do here at Equity.Guru. That’s not a brag. It’s just truth. I don’t care who you read, who you listen to, who you watch, if they’re telling you about investment opportunities they’re not TELLING YOU STORIES, they’re just rewording data.

They’ll tell you about the grade of gold at that hole in the ground in Quebec, they’ll tell you about that CEO who swears to god his technology is going to make a dent in an $X billion dollar market, and they’ll tell you about market cap and cost to produce and debt and blah blah blah, basically going through the deck and rewriting what they see.

Very few dig deep. Barely anybody goes in with elbows swinging, because they have money on the line.

But let me ask you – does anybody really need that business data checklist (shares outstanding, cost per ounce, billion dollar industry) repeated by sixteen different people? Those email blasts that you don’t open, the mailing lists you never subscribed to, the banner ads – none of it works.

Here, we tell stories. We look to turn people not into daytraders but long term investors, by telling them what the company needs to do to show they’re with you, and making sure they do that thing.

We tell you the dirt, and we tell you the good, and we tell you when the CEO is a shitheel and when he sends us hate mail and we take you behind the curtain on the roadshow and we tell you who is promoting hard and for how long.

We take a stance. You might disagree with that stance, you might hate the language we use, and the animated images might give you convulsions, but you’ll come back for more and our traffic numbers are proving that.

Here’s why what we do works.

Tell your stories better.
